The National Breast Cancer Foundation (NBCF) is pleased to announce the NBCF Postdoctoral Training Fellowship Awards for researchers. The aim of this award is to attract, train and retain our most talented breast cancer researchers of the future.

The three Fellowship Schemes supported by the NBCF are summarised in the table below.

Postdoctoral Training Fellowship 0-5 years after award of a PhD or equivalent
Early Career Fellowship >5 and <9 years after award of a PhD
Career Fellowship >8 years after award of a PhD


Note: NBCF is not calling for applicants in 2010 for Career Fellowships beginning research in 2011. We annually review our grant portfolio in approximately November - January. To see grants on offer in 2010/11 go to the research calendar.

The Postdoctoral Training Fellowship will support the salary and research of outstanding new investigators with a vision to expand the scale and scope of breast cancer research in Australia.

The specific aims of the schemes are to:

Develop the most outstanding and creative breast cancer researchers across the range of disciplines in biomedical, clinical, health services and public health research

Foster mentoring and collaboration of talented postdoctoral researchers and facilitate integration of these new investigators into successful research teams.

Enhance the quality and foster expansion of the scale and scope of beast cancer research in Australia.

Undertake research that is a major importance and with potential to impact of breast cancer outcomes.

NBCF Postdoctoral Training Fellows are expected to be promising rising stars in their fields. The maximum funding available for each Postdoctoral Training Fellowship is up to $90,000 per annum over four years. The funding provided will cover:

NBCF Postdoctoral Training Fellows are expected to be promising rising stars in their fields. The maximum funding available for each Postdoctoral Training Fellowship is up to $90,000 per annum over four years inclusive of salary, oncosts and some research-related expense.

This year (2011 funding) we are delighted to announce our partnership with Cure Cancer Australia Foundation (CCAF). CCAF has agreed to contribute their research funds towards promising young breast cancer researchers under the scheme of the NBCF Postdoctoral Training Fellowship. CCAF will provide $90,000 towards the first year of the Fellowships. Awardees of the Fellowships will be recognised as the recipients of ‘co-funding from NBCF and CCAF’.


The NBCF will not support any individual researcher, research group or institution that accepts funds from tobacco companies or persons associated with the tobacco industry.
