National Breast Cancer Foundation (NBCF) has a vision for the future - we want to close our doors!

In 2004 the NBCF launched Australia’s first-ever National Action Plan for Breast Cancer Research and Funding. The plan is viewed as visionary and calls for changes in the way that breast cancer research is planned, performed and monitored in Australia.

WHY DOES AUSTRALIA NEED A PLAN FOR BREAST CANCER RESEARCH?

Breast cancer research in Australia lacks:
• a coherent research policy
• mechanisms to generate a coherent research policy
• planning and co-ordination between
- funding agencies (private & public)
- consumers
- health service providers
- pharmaceutical companies
- the research community

The major thrust of the 2004 Plan, prepared on behalf of the National Breast Cancer Foundation, is to accelerate achievement in breast cancer research.

This year, the NBCF will again lead the review of the plan inviting participation from international and Australian experts to develop a visionary focus for breast cancer research in Australia which will contribute to the international body of understanding of this complex disease.
