Our Board of Trustees is responsible for corporate governance. The board guides and monitors business affairs, including approval of the distribution of research funds.

Ms Roslyn Kelly AO (Chair)

Ms Ros Kelly moved to Federal Parliament in 1980 after being elected to the ACT Legislative Assembly in 1974. Ros held several ministerial portfolios from 1987 through to 1994 including Minister for Defence, Science and Personnel; Minister for the Arts, Sport the Environment and Tourism and Minister for the Environment, Sport and Territories.

She has held several executive and non-executive directorships largely associated with managing the environment. Ros was a member of the International Advisory Council for Normandy Mining Ltd from 1995 - 2001 and is currently Chair of the Minerals Council of Australia's External Advisory Group on Sustainability. In addition to accepting the role as a Trustee for the National Breast Cancer Foundation (NBCF) in June 2003, and then Chair for the NBCF in 2005, Ros also volunteers her time as a trustee for the Worldwide Fund for Nature.

Ros was awarded an Order of Australia in 2004 for her service to the community through promoting corporate environmental responsibility and fostering dialogue between business and conservation groups, to the Australian parliament and to women's health.

Research Advisory Committee

We aim to support high quality research in breast cancer. In order to do this, the NBCF seeks the advice and assistance of expert researchers nationally. We are indebted to the members of the Research Advisory Committee who give their time and expertise freely to assist us in reviewing grant applications.

The Research Advisory Committee recommends to the Board of Trustees the research grants to be awarded, based on the principle of peer review. Professor Beth Newman chairs the Research Advisory Committee and other members are:

Governance Statement

The governance statement supports the Deed of Trust for the National Breast Cancer Foundation executed in June 2000.

The National Breast Cancer Foundation is governed by a Board of Trustees who are appointed in accordance with guidelines contained within the Deed of Trust.

The board establishes priorities to guide and monitor the business and affairs of the Foundation including approvals for the collection and distribution of research funds.

Members of the board actively participate in Foundation events and activities and use their networks to generate contacts and support for its fundraising for research.
