2010 RESEARCH GRANTS ANNOUNCED
To coincide with World Cancer Day on February 4, the National Breast Cancer Foundation is pleased to announce the launch of 25 new research projects worth $9.2 million. It is anticipated that the projects will deliver new knowledge about breast cancer; how to treat it and how to improve the quality of life for those living with the disease. The new grants take the total of research funded by the NBCF to $67 million.
The most siginificant of the projects is a 5-year, $5 million National Collaborative Grant, which will aim to find a cure for recurrent or metastatic breast cancer. The current prognosis for women with recurrent breast cancer is poor, so this study has huge potential to save lives. The study also aims to develop improved diagnostics that predict response to therapy and the likelihood of recurrence. Professor Erik Thompson from St Vincent’s Institute and the University of Melbourne will lead this project, and is supported by a team of Chief Investigators from Melbourne, Sydney, Canberra, Brisbane, Adelaide and Perth.
These grants would not be possible without your generous support, and that of our corporate partners – every donation, no matter how big or small, counts. Read more about the funding recipients and their projects here.
