Motivated by witnessing so many women diagnosed with breast cancer, Canberra-based Helen Gilles decided to take action and do something positive! She enrolled as a supporter of the National Breast Cancer Foundation in 2007 and hasn’t looked back since.
Every year her event has grown bigger and better and the “Oscar Gala” is now considered one of the highlights of the Canberra social calendar! The event is a tongue-in-cheek ‘send up’ of the Academy Awards and taps into the urge to dress up and be treated like a movie star...just for one night!
This year’s event surpassed all expectations and raised over $11,000 for breast cancer research. Helen is assisted by her super coordinator, Lauren Hernandez, who is personally motivated as breast cancer runs in her family.
Helen and Lauren are both extremely thankful for all the support they have received from the local community over the years. Last year Dawn Fraser even came onboard! Congratulations Helen and Lauren and we look forward to helping you with “Oscar Gala 13” in March!
