FOR RESEARCHERS

The National Breast Cancer Foundation (NBCF) is a major funder of breast cancer research in Australia. Since 1994, NBCF has awarded more than $97 million to fund over 340 Australian based research projects.

Currently, NBCF is the only community-supported organisation in Australia that funds research across the breast cancer spectrum. NBCF supports research that will improve our knowledge of: screening, diagnosis, treatment, follow-up care, relapse, survivorship and prevention.

NBCF encourages innovation, collaboration and multidisciplinary research and supports talented researchers. NBCF funding is not limited by state boundaries or institutional policies.

To ensure integrity, accountability and transparency when awarding funds, NBCF coordinates a rigorous peer-review process. Our peer-review committees consider:

  • The quality of the research, including its originality and approach;
  • The feasibility of the research, including the expertise of the research team and the quality of their prior research output; and
  • The impact that the research may have on our management of breast cancer.

The following pages provide information regarding NBCF’s research priorities, grant schemes and the grant application process.
