Welcome

A very warm welcome to the National Breast Cancer Foundation website

The ultimate goal of the National Breast Cancer Foundation (NBCF) is to raise enough money to fund a cure for breast cancer. As Australia's leading national not-for profit organisation established to fund all forms of research into the prevention and cure of breast cancer, we have a responsibility to ensure that the funds you work so hard to raise are used in the best possible way as we move towards making our goal a reality.

Over the past ten years, the NBCF research programs have built a reputation of prestige and excellence through their rigorous peer-review processes that consider the project's quality, feasibility and relevance to breast cancer.

The NBCF is unique in its research funding as it is the only community organisation that awards funds specifically for research across the continuum of breast cancer - from genetics to treatment, to support and palliative care. Funds raised are directed to the best research in Australia – we are neither limited by state boundaries nor institutional policies. We have no vested interest other than ensuring we progress knowledge about breast cancer.

As a nation, we have all the ingredients to successfully push onwards towards the prevention, and eventual cure for breast cancer but the most important part of the recipe is you.

New Research Milestones Booklet 2008 launched

The Research Strategy Team is thrilled to announce the publication of the new Research Milestones 2008 booklet. This annual booklet reports on the distribution of NBCF funds across different research projects and highlights some of the exciting research developments across major areas of breast cancer research.

The 2008 booklet wears the message - “Doing breast cancer research costs a fortune – not doing it costs more”. NBCF cannot provide opportunities for funding Australia’s most talented researchers, nor make real advances in battling breast cancer, without the continued generosity of the Australian public and our corporate supporters. Research takes lots of time and money.

Research Milestones 2008 emphasizes the need for your continued support, as our researchers attack this aggressive disease head-on.

You can download the Research Milestones 2008 booklet below. We welcome your feedback on info@nbcf.org.au

ON THE ROAD CURING CANCER

In 2007, a team of 23 extremely passionate cyclists set off from Brisbane and rode to Sydney in the Inaugural 'Tour de Cure'. The money raised was put towards finding a cure for cancers affecting men, women and children.

Tour de Cure donations have sponsored the latest technology for breast tissue research and analysis along with funding Prostate Cancer and Camp Quality projects.

In 2008, the Tour de Cure will ride from Melbourne to Sydney. The riders will continue the fight to find a cure by raising more valuable donations.
